Malawati Hill

Bukit Malawati or Malawati Hill is located in the coastal town of Kuala Selangor, a 30-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur. In the late 18th Century, the second Sultan of Selangor had a fortress constructed on Malawati Hill to protect the state from intruders. Raja Lumu, a Bugis prince became the first sultan in 1766. Raja Lumu built a fort on a strategically located hill that overlooked the sea and named it Kota Melawati. There are many attractions here that will be sure to blow your mind, coupled with the history of what happened at the fort.

Kuala Selangor District Historical Museum

Kuala Selangor District Historical Museum located 53km from Shah Alam City and 40km from Royal Klang Town. Originally, the museum building was an old Official Residence of Kuala Selangor District Officer. Kuala Selangor District Historical Museum gathered all histories related to Kuala Selangor as the Selangor earliest administration centre and also the beginning of the Royal Selangor Institution created by Raja Lumu (Sultan Salehuddin) in 1766. There are 7 section of the museum which explained the chronologies of history of Kuala Selangor.

Pasir Penambang – Wet & Dry Market

The Pasir Penambang sub-district, located along the Selangor River, revolves around fishing and has a population of 5,000 and 120 houses, with Hokkien as the main dialect. The village was found by the Indonesian Chinese population who fled from Panipahan, Indonesia during the Japanese occupation in the 1940s, making them the first generation.

 

Pasir Penambang market is the main market where freshly catches fishes and seafood are available. Two Chinese Village which are at Bagan Sungai Yu downstream of Sungai Selangor and further and further upstream Bagan Pasir Penambang are famous for seafood, both fresh and dried ones. Sale of various types of fish and other seafood as well as home-made fish balls are among the attractions at the two villages and they usually sold out fast. Other popular items are dried seafood and manufactured goods such as noodles as well as prawn and fish crackers.

Sky Mirror

Sky Mirror named after its mirror-like reflection of the sky is a mystery island that will only emerge for several days every month: During the 1st and 15th of a lunar month, as well as 4 days before or after these dates. It is also dubbed the Salar de Uyuni of Malaysia, after similar natural wonder in Bolivia. Sky Mirror is also home to a multitude marine life besides sand dollars, the most common are the sea clams and baby clams which scattered abundantly in the sand. Though tiny, you will definitely fall in love with millions of baby clams that glitter like diamonds under the sun. Other interesting marine organisms found are sea anemones, shore crabs, red crabs, soldier crabs, bamboo clams, sea grapes, bailer shell, sea snails, and a variety of shells

Kuala Selangor Nature Park

Kuala Selangor Nature Park is a haven for a wide variety of flora and fauna. Kuala Selangor Nature Park comprises over 200 hectares of coastal land where a large part of it is mangrove swamps. Mangrove ecosystem are extraordinary in that they protect the coastline, serve as fish breeding ground, give refuge to diverse wildlife and supply wood. Kuala Selangor Nature Park is much more than just mangrove trees in a swamp. The Nature Park stretches over 800 acres of three distinct habitat which include inland secondary forests, muddy estuaries and mudflats, and a brackish lake that is inhibited by wetland animals. The area also has more than 150 species of birds and an estimated 100,000 wading birds, comprising 30 species, passing through here on their annual migration.

Royal Mausoleums

As you descend the hill, you will be able to see the Royal Mausoleum at the left hand side of the road. This mausoleum is the final resting place of the first three Sultans of Selangor.

Kampung Kuantan Fireflies

The Kampung Kuantan Firefly Park adventure began in the 1970s when a local entrepreneur foresaw the commercial potential of this magical event. The project was later entrusted to the Kuala Selangor District Council, who has continued its development to accommodate the increasing number of tourists. A trip to Kuala Selangor would be incomplete without exploring the uniqueness and miracles of the Kuantan Village Fireflies found in the midst of oil palm trees and small villages, home to a multi-racial community. Visitors would experience riding on a traditional sampan (small boat) down the Selangor River and observe the ‘Pteroptyx Tener’ species in close proximity. The fireflies suck nutrition from the Berembang trees, or scientifically known as the ‘Sonneratia Caseolaris’, which is the source of their food. The tree also serves as a water filter for the river.

Eagle Feeding Kuala Selangor

Eagle feeding is another attraction in Kuala Selangor. It started with a boat trip from jetty at Pasir Penambang to the estuary of the Selangor River. Tourist will experience 20 to 40 eagles flying in the sky and wanting for food. Tourist are free to feed these eagles.

Altingsburg Lighthouse

Kuala Selangor Lighthouse is a lighthouse at the top of Bukit Malawati in Kuala Selangor. The lighthouse is 83 meters tall, and stands at an elevation of 27 meters. It was built by the British in 1907 and became operational in 1910 as one of the Straits Settlements Lighthouses. The Kuala Selangor Lighthouse aids navigation for ships passing through the Straits of Malacca near the mouth of Sungai Selangor. It serves to inform ships that they are passing the mouth of the river, from which ships may be coming out. The Kuala Selangor Lighthouse was originally called Altingsburg Lighthouse, after the Dutch governor who was in charge of the area.

Royal Kampung Kuantan Golf Club

Royal Kampung Kuantan Golf Club (RKKGC) situated at a calm rural environment and far from the hustle and bustle of the city, playing at RKKGC mean players will get back to the tradition of golf. RKKGC offer a real golf playing because it’s the only golf course that needs player to walk. Situated in the Kuala Selangor district, this golf club is the oldest in Selangor and among the first built in the country. Built by British farmers 1910, the 9-hole course of 2,771 meters par 35 has gone through many changes. But it’s still challenging because of the green that is hard to take especially for players with a high handicap.
